Edlio Partners with Access Books to Sponsor a Library for Harvard Elementary

A Big Need

Edlio was proud to partner with Access Books to sponsor a new library for Harvard Elementary in Los Angeles! Sponsorship included a book drive and a service day where volunteers and the recipient school worked side-by-side to build classroom library sets from the donated books, processed new books for library circulation, and painted literacy-themed murals.

A Big Goal

This summer, we collected hundreds of books to meet our goal of filling Harvard Elementary’s new library with popular, high-interest titles! Our offices collected books appropriate for children in grades K-5, stocking the library’s shelves with books that kids really want to read.

A Big Day

Our work wasn’t done after the last books were collected! On September 8th, members of our L.A. team went to Harvard Elementary to set up the new library, distribute books, and paint fun literacy-themed murals. Our team had a blast, discovering latent artistic talents and beautifying a school at the same time. By collecting books, we also were reminded of book series we’d like to reread - who wants to start a Harry Potter book club?!

About Access Books

Our mission is to provide quality, high-interest books to school, classroom and community libraries.

We provide books to inner-city schools where at least 90 percent of students live at or below the poverty line. Most students at the schools we serve are children of color and children of immigrants. Since 1999, Access Books has donated more than a million books, and each year, approximately 18,000 pre-kindergarten through middle school-aged children participate in our program.

So many inner-city children never leave the five block radius of their home. Books can give them another world.
